Brooklyn is one of a kind. This girl helps people get through their darkest days (I know because she helped me), and has such a positive vibe around her. This is someone you want to get to know better!
1. Describe yourself in 5 words?
Transparent. Bold. Intuitive. Empathetic. Playful.
2. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
My good friend and co-worker at my radio station let me drag him to Value Village, choose a ridiculous outfit and fake a photoshoot in a field of long grass for “Instagram.” Oh, and we filmed it, uploaded it, and I still laugh watching it.
3. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
Animals give me major anxiety. Yeah, I’m THAT person. That being said, maybe a dog? They seem to get a whole lotta love! Or maybe a bird, so I could fly away from my problems and see the world for free. You know, the usual.
4. What helps you through challenges?
Phone calls. Wow! You don’t realize who you rely on in times of stress or loneliness until you move away. I am someone feels better by venting or explaining my thoughts and emotions. So even though running helps me to let go of stress and yoga allows me to practice mindfulness…communication is what I need most.
5. What inspires you?
Music. I take the rush I feel from a song and cling on to what was brought up for me. I’m also inspired by people’s raw integrity. If someone is completely themselves, I am so attracted to their vibe, it’s unreal. But it helps to have a soundtrack to your life to keep the inspiration going.
6. Tell us your favourite quote.
I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.” – Oprah Winfrey
7. Have you had any struggles in life that you want to share? How did you overcome them.
I don’t want to go into too much detail, but lately the universe is tugging me in a direction that feels so, so right. Timing is on my side and I feel so grateful. However, other personal areas of my life are falling apart, and I know I haven’t inflicted any of it. That is what makes it worse – knowing that I can’t help, and feeling helpless is so crippling. I have been vague in this answer, and I have not overcome this particular situation just yet – but I am just going to focus on the people and projects that make me happy I’m alive.
8. How do you express kindness?
Empathy. A trait I’ve come to know and rely on. I expect it because I give it so much. I am as blunt as they come but I am also an empath – I can understand my worst enemy’s low points and will want to help them. I listen to people who need to vent. I ask what I can do on my end. I let people in my life know that I love them and what they mean to me. I follow up with people. I’ve realized the kind of love I wish to have and also the kind of love I wish to give, and it’s wrapped in kindness.
9. Advice to your younger self?
Advice to let’s say, sixteen year old me? This is a tough one: Brooklyn, stop starving yourself – you are beautiful the way you are. Brooklyn, no one hates you – don’t let the social anxiety win. Brooklyn, your voice is a little deeper and your laugh is a little loud, so what? In a few short years these are attributes that will help your early career thrive. Believe that the pettiness of high school is temporary, and don’t let people emotionally manipulate you. Most importantly: the things you’re insecure about, the things that make you different…they are why you stand out. No one is you. That is your power.
10. What does Pay it Forward mean to you?
You are responsible for the energy you put out into the world, but you are also responsible for the energy you bring into your world. Accept and love yourself, accept and love others. Pay it forward.
